Epic wil Gears of War op PS3
Epic Games verwacht dat Gears of War 3 de grootste 'entertainment event' van 2011 wordt. Zo'n gekke uitspraak is het niet als je je bedenkt dat het de best verkopende exclusieve franchise is op de Xbox 360, na Halo natuurlijk. GoW is dus een belangrijke troef voor Microsoft, toch zou een multiplatform release in de toekomst niet ondenkbaar zijn.
Toen Industrygames aan Epic-president Mike Capps vroeg of hij Gears op op de Playstation platform zou willen uitbrengen was zijn antwoord niet negatief. "Do we wish we could take all those Killzone [players] and Resistance fans on PS3, and get them to say 'Gears is awesome'? Yeah, sure I'd love to ship the Gears trilogy on PlayStation. That would be fun. I want to be there; I want to be everywhere."
Voorlopig hoeft Microsoft echter niet te vrezen dat ze Marcus en de gang moeten delen met de concurrentie, dat hebben ze te danken aan hun goede samenwerking met Epic. "I don't regret what we're doing with Microsoft. They make it worthwhile all the time." Microsoft helpt Epic namelijk op meerdere vlakken met hun game, "They don't just market it; they do amazing work and they have a user testing team that makes our games better, and so each time we've come to the point of 'what do we do next?' we've been happy to work with them. They help us make a better product and do some really cool marketing on the platform, so we save some money there."
Bestaat er dan een kans dat Tandwielen der Oorlog ooit toch nog op de PS3 komt? "We definitely own Gears of War. This is our franchise, our IP." De uiteindelijke beslissing ligt dus in Epics handen, Capps voegt daar echter aan toe: "Time and time again, when it came down to figure out what we do next with Gears, we sat down with Microsoft and they've given us really good, compelling reasons to work with them again."
