EA-topman start nieuw gamebedrijf
De medeoprichter van EA Trip Hawkins heeft een nieuwe gamestudio opgericht genaamd If You Can. De studio is gevestigd in Londen en zal onder andere de lead producer van Moshi Monsters Ben Gehiler omvatten. Het bedrijf wil zich vestigen op educatieve games en heeft hiervoor onder andere geld gekregen van Venture Capitalists.
Hawkins legt uit waarom ze de voorkeur gaven aan Londen in tegenstelling tot het 'standaard' San Francisco.
“Great game development can take place anywhere in the world if you have the right people. If anything I’m disinclined to ramp up on the San Francisco area because it’s so expensive and there’s very high turnover with people switching companies. The culture and the lifestyle there is a little bit daunting.
“In the past there were countries like Ireland or Canada that we particularly attractive to game development because of government practices and tax credits and so on, but the European Union has done more to standardize that and benefits are becoming available in the UK.”
De studio wil dit jaar de eerste titels uit gaan brengen. Als je games kan ontwikkelen en op zoek bent naar een baan, het schijnt dat ze nog op zoek zijn naar developers.
