Spelers van Modern Warfare 3 kraken de game massaal af op de website Metacritic. Waar de reviewscore van de media ronde 9.0 is door 38 bedrijven zakt de score naar een 2.8 door 362 gebruikers van de website. Veel van de kritiek lijkt te gaan omdat de game niet vernieuwend genoeg zou zijn.

• This is the BEST map pack for MW2 so far. It's a little over priced though, they're usually like $15. There is a glitch however- usually my profile carries over from one map pack to the other, but this time my stats reset.
• Completely average game tbh. Nothing different than MW2 except for like 5 guns or something. They could have sold this as a 20$ map pack and not a full retail game.
• Just literally amazed how this game can get these high critic reviews. Played my flat mates copy and oh dear lord. Same damn game with a 3 on it. personally I thought MW2 was a broken ass heap (which is why I didn't buy this one) It's just the same whack-a-mole gameplay as before. Some good set pieces in the campaign but come on guys. You are just fueling Activision to keep copy/pasting their game. MP is still kinda fun but it just feels like you have bought an expensive map pack.
• The story is shorter than any MW game before. It's also more dull and VERY linear. MP is pretty much MW2 with new maps and maybe 1-2 extra guns and 1-2 twisted perks. This game does not deserve your 60 dollars, use it to buy map packs for mw2.
