Energiecentrales zorgen voor 24 uur lange sneeuwbui
Maandag viel er onverwacht enorm veel sneeuw in Norfolk in de Amerikaanse staat Nebraska. De sneeuwval duurde een volle dag en in totaal viel er ongeveer vijf centimeter sneeuw.
The National Weather Service heeft met behulp van radarinformatie de bron gelokaliseerd van deze sneeuwbui en het blijkt veroorzaakt te zijn door twee elektriciteitscentrales, gelegen bij de stad Norfolk. De opgewekte stoom, uitgestoten door deze centrales, bereikte de ijskoude lucht boven de staat Nebraska, waardoor het verder weer neerviel als sneeuw.

"De oorzaak van de sneeuw is de vochtige lucht van de centrales die door de vrieskou in de atmosfeer omgezet wordt in kristallen", aldus een meteoroloog van The National Weather Service. Er vielen sneeuwvlokken van drie centimeter in doorsnee.
