Battlefield 4 Battlescreen alleen naar next-gen en pc
De 'second screen'-functies van Battlefield 4, Battlescreen genaamd, zullen alleen beschikbaar zijn voor pc en next-gen consoles. De PlayStation 3- en Xbox 360-versies vallen dus buiten de boot.
Gamers die Battlefield 4 voor pc, PlayStation 4 of Xbox One kopen zullen volledige toegang krijgen tot Battlescreen, waarmee men stats kan bekijken, loadouts kan instellen en ook servers kan zoeken om op te spelen. Dit maakte Battlelog assistant producer Jesper Nielsen bekend in een interview met Engadget.
De reden dat Battlescreen exclusief naar de next-gen consoles en pc gaat, is het feit dat Battlelog nu volledig web-gebaseerd is.
“Battlelog is powered by the web, and that has a lot of implications. There are a lot of different things you can do, things you can do faster, rather than building stuff in native code”, aldus Nielsen.
“It’s going to be a lot easier for us to actually update things from the in-game Battlelog than would otherwise be the case. You’d have to do patches normally; here we can actually do things almost by the flick of a finger.”
Nielsen gaf verder nog aan dat veel Xbox 360- en PlayStation 3-spelers Battlelog niet meer gebruikten omdat ze hun Origin-wachtwoorden vergaten en het niet de moeite waard vonden om deze te zoeken of opnieuw aan te vragen. Daarom zal Battlelog voor PlayStation 4 en Xbox One via een QR-code werken in plaats van een Origin log-in. “It might sound trivial, but it’s actually making something that might be problematic for people super simple”, zei Nielsen.
Volgens Nielsen is DICE nog aan het experimenteren met extra functies voor Battlelog en Battlescreen: “To be frank, it will stand its real test once we get it out to the players and see how they use it, both when they play and don’t play. That will teach us a lot and help us innovate even more in this field.”
“We don’t have the answers to all the questions in this space yet, so it’s definitely a bit of an experiment, but we’re very confident with some of the steps we’ve taken to provide a truly meaningful and valuable second-screen experience."
Battlefield 4 is eind oktober te koop voor pc, PlayStation 3 en Xbox 360. De releasedatum voor de next-gen consoles is nog onbekend.
