Nvidia hoofdsponsor Electronic Sports World Cup 2008

De organisatiecommissie voor de Electronic Sports World Cup van 2008 heeft bekend gemaakt dat chipfabrikant Nvidia hoofdsponsor zal zijn voor het evenement, dat het komend jaar zal plaatsvinden in Californië in de Verenigde Staten. Nvidia zal de voorrondes in meer dan vijftig landen ondersteunen en ook de finalerondes in de verscheidene hoofdsteden. Als laatste zal het bedrijf ook de ESWC International Masters ondersteunen. Dit is de professionele competitie die voorafgaat aan de uiteindelijke Grand Finals. Matthieu Dallon, CEO van Games-Services, geeft tekst en uitleg:

"Nvidia has an international reputation for graphics excellence, so they are the ideal partner for us in this event. ESWC champions rely on Nvidia technology to give them the killer edge in competition. ESWC 2008 is a milestone for us as the Grand Final will be held in the USA for the first time. We made the decision to move because we felt it will be great for competitors, spectators and e-sports as a whole. It's part of our continuing efforts to ensure ESWC's skilled cyber-athletes gain the recognition they deserve by creating our most spectacular event ever in California. With representatives from all over the world, this will be a truly global event."

Nvidia steunt de ESWC al sinds haar oprichting in 2003. Het evenement is in korte tijd uitgegroeid tot een competitie met in de afgelopen finale in Parijs ruim 750 deelnemers en niet minder dan 35.000 toeschouwers. De finale in het CounterStrike toernooi, die niet minder dan drie uur duurde, werd zelfs via internet door meer dan een miljoen mensen bekeken. Nvidia was dan ook erg tevreden met de gesloten deal, Daniel F. Vivoli, Senior Vice President van Nvidia:
