House: "PSP Go niet te duur"

Het lijkt er bijna op alsof hij het bewust doet, want Andrew House heeft alweer stof doen opwaaien. Deze keer gaat het om de prijs van de opgepimpte PSP, de PSP Go. Deze gaat in de Verenigde Staten namelijk 250 dollar kosten, en daar zijn de yanks niet zo blij mee.

De hoge prijs zou voor veel gamers een te groot obstakel zijn om de PSP Go te kopen. Al helemaal omdat andere handheld consoles zoals de DSi rond de $100 goedkoper zijn. House, de directeur van Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, ziet hier geen probleem in omdat de consoles van Sony volgens hem veel langer meegaan:

" (...) we have always said we take a different view of the lifecycle than perhaps some of our competitors do. People laughed at us when we said that ten year lifecycles were possible in the videogames business. Well, we had one for the PSone, and we're nine years into PS2 and still going very strong, although admittedly with a different focus on different markets as the lifecycle progresses."

Dat de PSP Go in Europa zelfs 249 euro gaat kosten (omgerekend 350 dollar) is volgens Andrew House gerechtvaardigd, omdat de Europese markt minder draait om de prijs van een product:

"I think on PlayStation 3, and the potential with an extension of PSP, we've got an opportunity to go even further on that. The overall value proposition which, by the way, European consumers get very, very well, I don't think they are as price driven as other markets."

De release van de PSP Go staat gepland voor 1 oktober 2009.
