Gabe Newell: De PS3 is een totale ramp

In een interview met het Amerikaanse gamesmagazine Game Informer had Valve's managing director Gabe Newell weinig goede woorden over voor Sony's PlayStation 3. Volgens Newell is de PS3 een ramp op een groot aantal vlakken en heeft Sony volledig het contact met de consument verloren. Dit weerhoudt Valve er echter niet van om Half-Life 2 inclusief Episode 1 en Episode 2 naar de PlayStation 3 te brengen.

Positievere woorden had Newell over voor Nintendo's Wii. Hij is van mening dat Nintendo alles goed doet en dat de Wii qua verkochte aantallen tegen het einde van dit jaar Microsofts Xbox 360, welke een jaar eerder in de schappen lag, voorbij zal streven.

Gabe Newell: The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted. I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a "do over". Just say, "This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it". The happy story is the Wii. I'm betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I'm crazy. I really like everthing that Nintendo is doing. "
