De PlayStation 2 is nog lang niet dood. Mensen die de verkoopcijfers een beetje volgen wisten dit natuurlijk al (de PS2 verkoopt beter dan de Xbox 360 en de PlayStation 3), maar ook Phil Harrison van Sony (PR) zegt het in een interview. Sony is van plan de PS2 nog lang te ondersteunen. Daarnaast hintte Harrison zelfs naar nieuwe specifieke controllers voor de PS2. Na Buzz, Singstar en de Eyetoy komt er dus misschien nóg een game met unieke controllers.

Well, I can't answer your question directly because I'm not familiar with what you're referring to, but we put USB ports on the PlayStation 2 for a reason, which was to support open technology. So anything that is based around USB can be plugged into a PS2 and could add some unique experience.

We've done that well, Buzz controllers, EyeToy, Singstar, but there are others as well coming. We're by no means done with PS2. We can't make enough PS2s at the moment, which is a fantastic situation to be in eight years into the lifecycle

Niet alleen Sony is van plan om de PS2 lang te ondersteunen, ook SEGA ziet nog veel in de console. SEGA is van plan om de console nog zo'n drie jaar te ondersteunen en zien de PS2 als een console die langer meegaat dan welke console ooit.
