Hollywood kroont Everything Everywhere All At Once tot beste film van 2022
Even leek het te veel gevraagd: na de enthousiaste ontvangst door bioscoopbezoekers en de winst op andere awardshows zou het geluk wel eens kunnen stoppen bij de Oscars, dachten ook de makers afgelopen week. Maar toch niet: tijdens de Academy Awards, de jaarlijkse apotheose van het awardseizoen in Hollywood, bewees Everything Everywhere All At Once toch écht iets bijzonders te hebben gedaan.
De film, over een Chinees-Amerikaanse manager van een wasserette die het multiversum moet redden, werd bekroond tot Beste Film. Ook won de film de prijzen voor regie, het scenario en de montage. Castleden Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis en Ke Huy Quan wonnen respectievelijk Beste Actrice (hoofdrol en bijrol) en Beste Acteur (bijrol). Voor Beste Acteur was niemand uit Everything Everywhere genomineerd; daar won zoals verwacht Brendan Fraser voor The Whale. Yeoh is met haar winst de eerste Aziatische vrouw die tot beste actrice wordt gekroond.
Michelle Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All at Once
All Quiet on the Western Front, de grote winnaar bij de Bafta's, won hier 'slechts' Beste Internationale Film en kreeg de prijzen voor cinematografie en de score (de filmmuziek). Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio won Beste Animatie en Navalny won Beste Documentaire, beide net als bij de Bafta's.
