White men can't dance?

Ik weet dat het gedrag van de witte man op de dansvloer het onderwerp is van verschillende sociologische studies. Bijvoorbeeld door Maxine Craig die in augustus op de annual conference van de American Sociological Association een paper presentation verzorgde met de pakkende titel "Sorry, I Don't Dance: White Male Bodies and the Dance Floor". In het paper abstract lezen we:

This paper argues for the importance of intersectional analyses in studies of dominant groups. Combining in-depth interviews with archival research on the changing spatial and social location of dancing, this paper explores the experiences of white heterosexual men with dance in order to view the intersectional co-construction of race, class, gender and masculinity in everyday life. Neither skillful dancing nor discomfort with one's moving body is natural. Both are products of a habitus and are among the ways that we take up race, class, gender and sexuality in our social lives. Asking how and why white men tend to cede the dance floor to others and when and under which conditions they claim it as their own, this paper examines the production of white, middle-class masculinities.

Ik snap niet wat ze nu eigenlijk precies onderzocht heeft, maar als je deze clip bekijkt, lijkt me verder onderzoek eigenlijk overbodig. Inderdaad, deze witte mannen kunnen dus echt niet dansen.
