Dure straf

Klonk

17 smuggled luxury cars worth $2.16 million destroyed in Philippines.

After some finger-pointing, authorities finally pushed through with their plan to destroy seized smuggled luxury vehicles in Subic Thursday afternoon.

17 vehicles with a combined worth of P100 million were wrecked without President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in attendance as had been originally planned.

The destruction, initially scheduled before noon, went on past 1 p.m. reportedly without some luxury vehicles earlier "advertised."

Initial reports indicated the vehicles destroyed included Hyundai and Kia vans, and a Mitsubishi Eclipse – a far cry from the exotic Lamborghini and Porsche sports cars Palace executives claimed were slated for destruction.

Last Saturday, Presidential Management Staff head Cerge Remonde claimed the exotic cars were to be destroyed to send a message to smugglers that the government means business.

The dzBB report quoted Morales as saying the vehicles they had seized, reportedly including a Lincoln Navigator SUV, were suddenly gone.

On the other hand, PASG head Antonio Villar Jr. claimed the list he got was different from the vehicles lined up for "destruction."

The supposed list of vehicles scheduled for destruction included a Hyundai Grace van, a Kia Pregio van, a Hyundai Galloper SUV, two Mitsubishi Delica vans, a Toyota Lite-Ace van, and a Mitsubishi Eclipse sports car.

The Korean-made Hyundai Grace and Galloper are considered "poor man's" versions of the Japanese-made Mitsubishi L-300 and Pajero
