CD: VA - A Nightmare Outdoor 2007 - The Live DJ Sets
In het digipack zitten twee cd`s met daarop vier (delen van) livesets. Aan bod komen: Darrien Kelly vs. The Stunned Guys, DJ Neophyte vs. The Viper, Endymion vs. Nosferatu en Day-Mar. De eerste mix is pompend en rauw. Darrien Kelly vs. The Stunned Guys zet een hoog tempo in, waardoor je gelijk wakker bent. Weinig opbouw of climaxen, maar gewoon gáán. De tweede mix is iets bombastischer en bevat meer tracks die duidelijk opbouwen naar een hoogtepunt. In de mix zit wel een grote misstap: 'Dune – Hardcore vibes'. Zelfs al gebruik je 'The Viper’s Live Edit', dit is een track die niet thuishoort op een cd als deze. Gelukkig was daarvoor nog 'Dione – War against the machines' te horen. Dat maakt het wel een beetje goed. Deze set bevat veel gimmicks, maar is wel ontzettend rauw. Als luisteraar weet je niet zo goed wat je er van moet vinden.
De set van Endymion vs. Nosferatu is wat gezichtsloos. Gelukkig is daar op het einde 'Enzyme X – Dreadlock'. Dit is en blijft een geweldige killer! Vervolgens sluit Day-Mar het album best aardig af door in haar mix een aantal melodieuze tracks aan elkaar te rijgen. Maar je hoeft je als luisteraar geen zorgen te maken dat het soft wordt: er is voldoende ruimte voor distortions en basskicks.
Het aardige aan deze release is dat het een echte live opname is. Geen knippen, geen computermixen, maar gewoon net zo rauw als het was. Die pretentieloosheid is goed. Helaas zorgt dat er wel voor dat dit een cd is die je waarschijnlijk alleen koopt als je ook op het feest geweest bent. Was je er niet bij, dan zal deze dubbel-cd niet veel toevoegen aan je collectie.
