Newell vindt dat Origin nog niet geweldig is

In een Seven Day Cooldown podcast heeft Gabe Newell onder andere gesproken over die andere online gamesdienst naast Steam: EA's Origin. Tot dusverre is Newell niet onder de indruk: “I don’t think they’re doing anything super-well yet." Toch is de Valve-baas optimistisch over de toekomst van Origin.

Hij zei namelijk ook dat EA een aantal slimme mensen in dienst heeft, die uiteindelijk iets neer kunnen zetten waar zowel ontwikkelaars als klanten profijt van hebben. Ook hoopt hij dat in de toekomst ook Orgin-exclusives naar Steam kunnen komen. “We think their customers would be happy if their games were on Steam, we tell them that on a regular basis,” zei hij. “I think EA wants to take their shot at building their own alternative to Steam, and if they’re successful at that and their customers like that then that’s great. But whatever they’re trying to do to create value for their customers is not a zero sum game."
