Portal 2 vertraagd tot 2011

Valve (en Aperture Science) lijken veel moeite te doen om het bloed onder de afwachtende gamer zijn nagels te halen, want na een hele berg geruchten en verrassingen, komt nu een bericht met een minder grappige inhoud. Portal 2, waar Valve van riep dat het deze zomervakantie uit zou komen, komt pas in 2011.

In een door Aperture Science geschreven persbericht kwam naar buiten dat uit veiligheidsoverwegingen is besloten om de game uit te stellen. Men was bang dat er een 'scheur in tijdsdimensie van Valve Time' zou kunnen ontstaan, waardoor iedereen nogal origineel aan zijn einde zou komen. Hieronder het hele bericht:

Aperture Science, doing business as Aperture Laboratories LLC, in partnership with Valve today announced the successful completion of an ethics-review-panel-supervised release date restructuring process. Portal 2, the sequel to the ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date, is now targeted for a 2011 release.

Representatives from both companies acknowledged that public safety concerns factored into the decision. They went on to say that even though Portal 2 will arrive slightly later than planned, all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time.

"Also, the game will be even better," they added, missing an historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse.

Opvallend is dat ze in het bericht benadrukken dat de 'verrassing' temaken zal hebben met Portal 2. Ook is het op zijn minst vreemd te noemen dat zo kort voor de E3 deze vertraging aan het licht komt, terwijl Valve voor zover bekend alleen Portal 2 zal showen. Sommige nieuwssites melden vanwege dit bericht dat de verrassing niet Episode 3 of de Source Engine 2 zou kunnen zijn. Wij houden de mogelijkheid van dat laatste nog even open, aangezien Portal 2 best op die engine zou kunnen draaien...
