Zelensky op FoxNews: 'ben Amerika zeer dankbaar, maar bied Trump geen excuses aan'
Enkele uren na het openlijke gekift met de Amerikaanse president Trump en VP Vance, heeft de Oekraïense president Zelensky zijn spijt betuigd over wat er is voorgevallen. "Dit is niet voordelig voor beide partijen," verklaarde hij in een tv-interview met de Amerikaanse zender Fox News. Zelensky zei dat hij de president respecteerde en ook het Amerikaanse volk respecteerde. Hij benadrukte dat hij de VS niet als partner wilde verliezen.
Toch maakte Zelensky duidelijk dat hij geen excuses zal aanbieden aan trump. "We moeten transparant en eerlijk zijn, en ik denk niet dat we iets verkeerd hebben gedaan." Gisteren ontstond er in het bijzijn van camera's een heftige discussie tussen Zelensky, Trump en zijn vice-president Vance. In Washington zou er een deal over grondstoffen worden gesloten. Oekraïne verlangt veiligheidsgaranties, maar deze werden niet gegeven. In de Oval Office beschuldigde Trump Zelensky ervan "ondankbaar en respectloos" te zijn, en hij zei dat Zelensky geen vrede wil.
Vanmiddag postte Zelensky op X nog een toelichting op wat hij gisteren duidelijk had willen maken.
