Europese landen laten een diverse consumptie van alcoholische dranken zien
Volgens het Europese statistiekbureau Eurostat zijn er grote verschillen in alcoholgebruik tussen de lidstaten.
Als het gaat om de wekelijkse consumptie van alcoholische dranken, staat Nederland met 47 procent bovenaan, gevolgd door Luxemburg met 43 procent en België met 40 procent.
Zwaar drinken, gedefinieerd als de consumptie van ten minste 60 gram pure alcohol, wat overeenkomt met ongeveer anderhalve liter bier, komt vooral voor in Denemarken, waar 38 procent aangeeft deze hoeveelheid minstens één keer per maand te consumeren. Duitsland staat in deze categorie op de vierde plaats met 30 procent, Kroatië heeft het hoogste percentage geheelonthouders met 38 procent.

In 2019, 8.4% of the EU adult population consumed alcohol daily, 28.8% weekly, 22.8% monthly & 26.2% never consumed or hadn’t consumed any in the last 12 months.

Daily consumption increases with age and is more common for men than women (13.0% vs 4.1%).
