Selena Gomez onderging niertransplantatie

Selena Gomez heeft het afgelopen zomer rustig aan gedaan omdat ze herstelde van een zware operatie. De 25-jarige zangeres en actrice onderging een niertransplantatie, onthulde ze donderdag op Instagram.

"Vanwege mijn lupus moest ik een niertransplantatie ondergaan", schreef Selena, die al langer kampt met de auto-immuunziekte, bij een foto waarop ze naast haar goede vriendin, actrice Francia Raisa, in het ziekenhuis ligt. Francia doneerde een van haar nieren aan Selena.

Selena schreef dat ze graag het hele verhaal wil delen met haar fans, "zoals ik dat altijd heb gedaan". Dat doet ze op een later moment. "Nu wil ik publiekelijk mijn familie en geweldige artsen bedanken voor alles wat ze voor en na de operatie voor mij hebben gedaan."

Ook bedankt ze Francia, die haar "het ultieme cadeau" heeft gegeven. "Woorden schieten tekort om mijn mooie vriendin Francia Raisa te kunnen bedanken. Ik ben onvoorstelbaar gezegend. Ik hou van je zusje."

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.
