THQ verliest UFC-licentie aan EA

THQ bezit niet langer de rechten om games te uit te geven die gebaseerd zijn op het Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Na 31 mei 2013 zal EA de enige zijn die officiële games van deze vechtsport mag gaan uitgeven.

THQ ontvangt hiervoor een onbekend bedrag en zal dit jaar nog wel wat UFC-titels op de markt zetten voor consoles en mobiele apparaten. “Over the last three years, THQ has delivered best-in-class, all-encompassing experiences to MMA fans, sports enthusiasts and fighting gamers around the globe with its UFC Undisputed^™ series. We want to thank them for their stewardship of our brand," aldus Dana White, President, UFC. “We look forward to joining forces with EA to leverage their sports platform, and expand our brand in the video game space.”

Brian Farrell, THQ’s Chairman and CEO, zei, “We have relished our relationship with UFC over the last several years and believe that the UFC gaming brand is in great shape. THQ’s more focused strategy moving forward meant that transferring the license to EA made sense to all parties. We would like to thank UFC for their great support and partnership and wish EA all the best moving forward.”

Het gaat al langere tijd niet goed met THQ. Ze zijn niet aanwezig op de E3 en Gamescom en ook dreigen ze van de beurs gehaald te worden als het aandeel niet beter gaat presteren op de NASDAQ.
