Koller: 'Sonys Eye meer precies dan Microsofts Natal'

Microsoft en Sony zijn flink bezig om hun doelgroep uit te breiden. Microsoft toonde Project Natal op de E3 en Sony kwam met PlayStation Eye. John Koller, de director van hardware marketing bij Sony, geeft aan dat hij de oplossing van Sony toch beter vindt dan waar Microsoft mee komt.

"Microsoft's is impressive because it does a full-body scan. Project Natal has depth issues on the Z axis that Sony's PlayStation Eye-tracked solution avoids. "The PlayStation Eye is more accurate and more precise."

Microsoft heeft tijdens de conferentie aangegeven dat de controller de laatste barrière was tussen gamers en games. Met Project Natal lossen ze dit op. Sony geeft spelers alsnog een controller in hun handen. John Koller geeft aan dat dit leuk is van Microsoft om te zeggen, maar sommige genres gaan nu eenmaal niet zonder een controller.

"It's not necessary for every genre. But without it, you can't play every genre. Microsoft's [solution] is going to have issues with shooting games, for example. We want to be as diverse as we can; the controller that we're looking at will be open as possible."

Koller geeft tevens aan dat hun controller 2009 niet zal halen. Ze zijn nu druk bezig met het creëren van software om de Eye te ondersteunen. Zowel first party- als third party-games zullen er moeten komen.
