Dit jaar keert de vijftien jaar oude fighting-serie King of Fighters terug naar de consoles. Om dit derde lustrum te vieren zullen de characters voor het eerst niet meer bestaan uit sprites, maar wordt alles high-res met handgetekende achtergronden. Volgens Shane Bettenhausen, New Business Development Director van Ignition Entertainment heeft alleen KoF nog de authentieke 2D-sfeer die bij een klassieke fighter hoort en zal dat een mooie manier zijn om een eerbetoon te brengen aan de serie.

While other fighting games have abandoned the time-consuming process of creating beautiful 2D art, KOFXII fully embraces the refined aesthetic beauty that only human hands can produce.
