Jeremy Clarkson: "GTA IV is niet de oorzaak van geweld"

Columnist en TV presentator Jeremy Clarkson heeft vandaag, in tegendeel tot de anderen, laten weten dat Grand Theft Auto IV niet de oorzaak van geweld is. Dat stond in zijn meest recente column in The Sun, een Engels dagblad. Clarkson heeft GTA IV gespeeld en kreeg niet meteen het idee om naar buiten te gaan en vervolgens mensen te gaan vermoorden. We citeren hem:

"This week the latest version of videogame Grand Theft Auto hit the shelves -- and pretty soon it will be cited as the reason why people feel compelled to lock their children in cellars, why Israel cannot find peace with the Palestinians and why everyone in Britain has been stabbed.

Hmmm, I played an earlier version of the game and must say that at no point did I feel the need to go outside and chop off a prostitute's head. In fact, as is the case with most videogames, I hadn't a clue what was going on. I sat there, frantically stabbing at all the buttons, until a message on the screen told me the game was over.

It was annoying. Not dangerous."

Ook al vond hij de game irritant, een positief artikel over GTA IV is altijd welkom. Er zijn volgens onze beste man geen redenen om maatregelen te nemen. Zoals Jeremy het al zegt; er zijn genoeg andere dingen op de wereld die belangrijker zijn, denk aan het conflict tussen Israël en Palestina en het terrorisme.
