Universal Music ondersteunt PS3 Blu-ray discs

The Universal Music Group (UMG) is lid geworden van The Blu-ray Disc Association. Blu-ray is het schijfje van de toekomst (35 gig op een schijfje zo groot als een cd/dvd) en biedt onder andere haarscherpe HD-TV beeldkwaliteit. Ook de PlayStation 3 wordt met een Blu-ray speler uitgerust.

Larry Kenswil, president van UMG's new media and technologies division, heeft verklaard de capaciteit, functionaliteit en interactiviteit van de Blu-ray disc graag te willen ondersteunen. "We recognize that Blu-ray Disc has the capacity, functionality and interactivity both artists and music fans demand. We intend to work closely with the BDA in order to represent the unique requirements of the music industry in the format creation process."

De oorlog tussen de formaten is nog niet helemaal afgelopen. In de andere hoek doet de HD-DVD zijn intrede. Welk formaat het nu "echt gaat redden" zullen we pas over vele jaren weten.
